Castro Marim

Castro Marim abuts on a height overlooking the ochre coloured and marshy Lower Guardiana Plain near its outflow int o the Gulf of Càdiz. The ruins of Castro Marim's castle stand to the north of the village, while the remains crowning a hill to the south are of the 17C Forte de São Sebastião. The territory south of the city is a nature reserve.

Sights
Castelo - Within the partly restored walls is a castle dating back to the 12C. The parapet walk affords a view over the small city with the 17C Forte de São Sebastião in the foreground, the salt marshes, the Guadiana, the bridge between Portugal and Spain, and the Spanish town of Ayamonte to the east and Vila Real de Santo António and the coast to the south. In the center of the town is a small handicraft and weapon museum.
